War!AU: Scars

"Alright." Northern Star's horn dimmed and he patted his older sister's shoulder gently. "Feel better, sis?"

"Everything still stings badly." Daylight muttered uncomfortably, rubbing her arm. "Sometimes I wish you could take it all away..."

"Yes, well," Star scratched his head a bit regrettably, "I try my best. At least they closed enough to stop bleeding. That changeling got you good, didn't he?" He tossed Day's shirt over her shoulder and grabbed a blanket to drape over her shoulders.

"I.....don't know why I didn't hear him coming..." Daylight furrowed her brow in worry, wrapping the blanket around herself. "It happened so fast.."

"....Hey," Northern Star scooted closer and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "It's alright, Day. At least you survived it. Still woozy?"

"He didn't take much out of me." Daylight rubbed the side of her face with her gauzed hand. "I gave him a swift groin kick before he could." The corners of her mouth twitched into a smile.

Star spotted the spark in her blue eyes and wrinkled his forehead in a worried manner. "Daylight...."

Day turned to her brother and blinked, "Hm?"

"......Day, are you....why don't you--" he sighed, "Mom and Dad are worried."

Daylight's furry ears perked. "I'm not going home."

"Why not?"

"I can't." She quickly averted her eyes from Star and he could sense a twinge of regret in her voice. "I can never go back."

Star flattened his ears and shook his head in disbelief. "Day...Day no. You were attacked. By a changeling. You could've gotten yourself killed. You can't like living on the run from who knows what! What if it happened again?! Or something worse?! Do you want to risk that?!"

Daylight leapt to her hooves and stood in front of him, her expression a mixture of anger and sadness. "It's either I get hurt or I hurt somepony else! Can't you see I need to be on my own?!"

Northern Star clenched his hands, bitterness rising swiftly inside him. He stood up quickly and blurted out, "There's a war going on out there, Daylight!" He jabbed a finger at the dusty window. "Ponies are getting hurt no matter what happens! Everypony you know is falling apart! Speedwell! Whistle Tune! Aunt Cadence is MISSING! Pocket Watch, Aunt Starlight and Uncle Whooves are Celestia's mother knows where! Mom is completely stressed out and all you can think about is yourself!"

Daylight flinched, hurt. His words stung worse than her fresh cuts. She shook her head in argument. "And what about you? You left home!"

Star sighed angrily. "I'm traveling around trying to doctor people! And I visit home as often as I can! I'm not running all around Equestria, trying to hide from my problems!"

He watched her eyes begin to shine and knew he went a bit too far. He shook his head at himself. "Day....Day, listen, I'm sorry." She didn't respond, biting her lip. "Hey..." he put a comforting hand on her shoulder, but she tensed.

Day tore away from her brother bitterly. "I want to go home! But I CAN'T! Not now! I need to be alone! And there's nothing you can do to convince me to change my mind."

Star's heart sank, and he opened his mouth to argue, but almost toppled over when his surprisingly strong tiny sister sprung into a tight bear hug, constricting his chest a bit. "Mmf! Day..."

"I'm glad you're here right now." Daylight closed her eyes, hugging him tight. This was one of those many moments where she forgets she's supposed to be the older sibling.

"Mmf....Day....can't breathe....." Star managed to wheeze.

Daylight quickly released him and let out a sheepish chuckle. "Sorry."

"It's fine." Star brushed the front of his shirt. "I missed you too, sis. You and all your stubbornness."

The apricot mare let out a retorting snort and folded her arms. "I'm not stubborn!"

"Yes you are."

"Am not!" She looked away stubbornly, holding her breath.

"Mhm. Sure." Northern Star poked her ribs, knowing he'd earn a loud squeak from his sensitive sister.

"EEP!" Daylight jumped and slapped his hand. "Stop it!"

"Not until you admit you're stubborn." He laughed, tickling her sides.

"EEEP!" Day squeaked in panic. "NEVER!"

He continued to attack her until she involuntarily let out a loud whinny.

"HeNEIGHHEHEHA!"

Daylight froze in horror and Star broke into uncontrollable laughter. "What the heck was that?!"

"TELL NOPONY!"

I missed drawing and writing these two together~

So Daylight ran away from home because of stress that made her magic more intense and hard to control than what it already was. She's mortified she'd hurt someone so she forces herself to travel alone. Her brother Star isn't too happy with that decision.

Northern Star and Daylight have an interesting relationship. It used to be the casual older protective sister and younger clingy brother, but at some point the roles were reversed somehow neh ha ha.
